Today’s show will be live. I’m going into the radio station where it will be just my producer in the production room and me in the studio, a whole different space, separated by glass and walls. I will have a guest who lives here in East Tennessee, but who will be calling into the studio rather than coming to the station for the show.

We are living through something none of us have ever experienced: a global pandemic and a state of national emergency, all happening in the 21st century where we have CONSTANT news, media, and updates available around the clock. At best it’s an inconvenience to have to come up with ideas for doing things while social distancing, and at worst… it’s terrifying. People have lost jobs, businesses are shutting down, people all over the world are dying and no one knows how many people have this virus or when it will all end and we can get back to our lives as we knew them… or if we ever will.

In times like we are experiencing today, who better to hear from than a mental health professional?

I’m thrilled to be interviewing Dr. Karel James Bouse. Dr. Bouse is the founder of the Institute of Esoteric Psychology, and the bestselling author of Neo-shamanism and Mental Health. She is an active member of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the British Psychological Association, the Parapsychological Association, the International Expressive Arts Therapists Association, and the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and the Society for Shamanic Practice.

All that means Dr. Karel takes the best of ancient, traditional healing modalities and combines them with modern science to create opportunities for people to experience greater mental health and wellness in their lives. And who doesn’t need that right now?

Dr. Bouse’s first Ph.D. is in history. She’s done some really interesting and cool things in her life like running theater companies, performing opera, and working as a journalist. Later she went on to earn her second Ph.D. in psychology. Since then she has taught workshops in Neo-shamanic practice for nearly 25 years and in creativity and expressive arts, personal mythology, and dream work since 2012. She has presented workshops and papers at psychological conferences in the US and UK, and has been a peer reviewer for The Journal of Humanistic Psychology since 2016. She is currently the Guest Editor for a Special Issue of JHP entitled “Anomalous Lifeworlds: Mysticism, Magic and Expanded Consciousness” which comprised of articles by recognized international experts in the fields of consciousness and parapsychological research.

Today not only will be talk about Dr. Karel’s personal story, she’ll be sharing some tips on how people can deal with the shock, social isolation, and uncertainty we all find ourselves suddenly living with every day.
